Our university has a channel and I use the OnTheAir for playback channel to the community. Since we use Final Cut editing station, I decided to purchase a Mac base playback system. I like the OnTheAir Video because it works on any G5 Mac and if I have a problem with the computer, it is easy for me to replace it. Also I use it as my back up server. I just export my projects as QT (larger size file) for the playback and if I need the project for the editing again, I get it from my playback computer.

It had to be an on-air server, capable of playing back a minimum of 6 stereo audio channels, and, again, with video that comes to us in multiple formats. I asked Jamie (Lovekin from Carbon Sound and Picture in Toronto ) for an equipment and software demo from Blackmagic and Softron and after testing for just over a week we knew that this setup was going to work out great! Ultimately we settled on DVCPROHD 1080i60 using HD-SDI into the Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme, recorded using Softron’s Movie Recorder. Movie Recorder has the ability to generate both Self-Contained and Elementary Movie files and we put both options to use.

Eyeworks Sport is using Movierecorder DV for live ingesting of soccer matches during production of a studio program for SC Heerenveen. This soccer club has an inhouse studio where a Final Cut Pro editing system is used to edit half and full time highlights of the home games that are played at the Abe Lenstra Stadium.
Technically we're using a Canopus Firewire converter which is the hardware that Softron's Movierecorder is using to live ingest the footage. During ingest the growing Quicktime Movie is imported in Final Cut Pro and from there we edit the needed highlights. After editing all highlights are imported in On the Air Video to create a half/full time playlist which consists of commercials, interviews and the live edited highlights. All functionality comes from a single MacPro workstation together with a Canopus Firewire converter for ingest and a Decklink Extreme card for playout.
For our sport production purposes at SC Heerenveen, the system with Softron Movierecorder / On the Air Video is an ideal solution for editing during ingest and lineair playout of the edited content.
